What are the plants that can grow in a hydroponic system?

Hydroponic gardening involves growing plants in nutrient-filled water so the plants can devote more energy to producing fruits and vegetables rather than searching for food.

Using hydroponics you can grow just about anything. Here are our top vegetables to grow in a hydroponic system:

1. Tomatoes

Many types of tomatoes, including traditional and cherry ones, have been grown widely by Hydroponic hobbyists and commercial growers. One thing to keep in mind is that tomatoes require much light.

2. Lettuce

This vegetable is no doubt a great plant if you just start with Hydroponics. Lettuces grow super fast in a hydroponic system and are fairly easy to take care of. Lettuces can be grown in any Hydroponics system, including the NFT, etc.

3. Cucumber

Cucumber is a warm plant so be sure to supply it with enough light and temperature. They enjoy rapid growth under sufficient conditions and hence give very high yields.

4. Spring Onion

Some growers also prefer to first start them in the soil. After that, you can simply have a small furrow in the soil and insert bulbs or place seeds, and then when they sprout, you can move them to the desired hydroponic system.

5. Peppers

Peppers need the same hydroponic growing condition like tomatoes, warm temperatures and large amounts of lights. Peppers often take two to three months to mature.

6. Spinach

Spinach is a cool plant, so it does not require too much light. You can harvest it all at once or tear off some leaves. You can get up to 12 weeks of continuous harvesting under a good condition of climate and a growing environment.

7. Strawberries

Strawberries are well suited for hydroponic growing. In fact, these fruits are one of the most popular plants grown in commercial hydroponic production.

8. Blueberries

Blueberries, a great fruit high in vitamins for your meal, can be grown well in Hydroponics. They are usually grown in an NFT system. It's hard to plant blueberries from seeds, so transplants are recommended.

9. Basil

Basil thrives very well in a hydroponic system, and it is indeed among the most grown herbs in Hydroponic. Once this plant reaches the mature stage, you harvest and trim it weekly.

10. Cilantro

Cilantro seeds are quite hard coated and may take up to 7 to 14 days for germination. Once sprouts appear, the seedlings are transplanted into a hydroponics system; the plants grow fast when adequate nutrients are available through the water.
