Here’s a step-by-step guide so you can learn how to expertly install Artificial Grass. We are using our SavvyTurf Premium Artificial Grass in here.
1. Remove Existing Turf
Remove all existing grass and other plants, or they may create an uneven surface after they die. You can use a shovel or a small rototiller to help you dig up the lawn and break up the soil.
Remove approximately 1.5 inches to 4 inches of soil. The artificial grass will need to sit approximately 0.5-inch above any edging. Ensure you take the proper measurements to dispose of your existing base correctly.
2. Add Base
Apply a layer of decomposed granite or crushed stone and spread it evenly. Moisten and compact the base. Use a hand compactor or machine compactor to compact it and create a solid base. Sprinkle the gravel or sand lightly with a garden hose to lubricate the particles. Be sure not to over water.
3. Prevent Any Weeds
Protect your SavvyGrow artificial grass from weed. A quality weed barrier is an excellent choice as an underlayment beneath your artificial grass. It will be strong enough to block weeds yet porous enough to ensure the passage of necessary water and liquid nutrients in your planter areas and around trees.
The weed barrier will also act as an additional stabilizer for your artificial grass lawn. Put a weed barrier on top of the gravel to prevent weeds.
4. Roll Out, Cut And Trim
Roll out your SavvyGrow artificial grass, being careful to not disturb the weed killing membrane as this will damage the leveling work on the base layer.
After the settling process is complete, using a quality utility knife, cut the artificial grass on the back side to fit around the perimeter.
5. Pin It Down
Fasten the turf perimeter, use 4-6 inch (10.2-15.2 cm) galvanized nails or landscaping anchor pins to fasten the artificial grass around the perimeter at 10-12 inches intervals.
6. Brush It Up
The fiber may be relatively flat from being rolled up, so be sure to brush against the pile to bring the fibers of the artificial grass upright. You don’t need anything else to make the grass stand upright.
Check your newly installed SavvyGrow artificial grass the next day to see the final result.
